Polywood Furniture: Is It Worth The Hype?

Dishing out some serious cash for outdoor furniture can leave you torn. Here we’ll weigh in on the pros and cons of Polywood before you complete your check out.

As patio weather is upon us, most of us are sprucing up the outsides to get ready for warmer weather- lake days, BBQs, and summer bonfires are in the air. But before you start entertaining, your furniture could use a little help. We’ve all heard on the infamous Polywood- Is it really worth it, and how much are you willing to spend on high-quality product?

What is Polywood, exactly?

It’s a type of plastic made out of HDPE (High-density polyethylene) that’s fade resistant and able to withstand all seasons and climates. Since it’s not made out of real wood, you never have to worry about needing to sand, paint or stain. It’s incapable of slitting or rotting. It’s also made out of recycled plastic so it’s great for the environment too!

Since first coming around in the 90s, the brand has expanded from A to Z with seating options, the famous Adirondack chair being one of them- with over 50 different options. Let’s go over some pros and cons

Review:

Living in Nashville, TN we get our fair share of extreme weather. One day it will be 70 and the next day it’s snowing. Our summers can also get pretty hot, and when you combine all that our metal furniture started to fade and rust with peeling paint. It was time.

After years of waiting and convincing myself I didn’t want to spend the money, I finally bit the bullet and bought chairs for our bonfire. There’s only so many times a girl is willing to spray paint. So I ordered 6 Adirondack chairs from Home Depot and they arrived in 3 days with free shipping. I went with the Modern design in black and I love the minimal and sleekness to it! It’s such a beautiful timeless design. I was nervous having the black chairs out in the summer sun, but they are surprisingly not as hot as you would expect them to be in 90+ heat. They’re so comfy and were fairly easy to assemble, each one taking about 20 minutes- and as I mentioned they are heavy! Like 30 lbs each.

So far we’ve been through two summers with them and they look brand spankin’ new. It was an investment for sure, but the quality is well worth the piece of mind that I never have to worry about them (At least for the next 20 years!)
